Mike has a great love for basketball. As a player Mike graduated from Central Memorial High School as one of Calgary’s top high school athletes. From here Mike attended Mount Royal University where he played two years for the Cougars and started his education in the Kinesiology faculty. Mike then moved on to excel at the University of Lethbridge where he and his teammates made a name for Pronghorns Basketball, advancing to CIS Nationals Finals for the first time in school history. After graduating with a B.Kin from the University of Lethbridge, Mike returned to Calgary and started his career in Oil & Gas and is currently working for Molson Coors Canada as the Manager of Sponsorship & Events for Western Canada.

As a coach Mike has been giving back to the community for several years. Mike spent 5 years as Head Coach of the Bishop O’Byrne Junior Boys Basketball team and is the President of WIN Basketball Club of Calgary. Since its start WIN has run a team each Spring competing in Spring League and competing in tournaments across Western Canada and the United States.

Mahir Markos

Position: Head of Player Development

Mahir Markos joins WIN Basketball Club after many years involved in the basketball community from Coast to Coast. Mahir grew up in Halifax Nova Scotia until the age of 17, when he moved west with his family to Calgary and attended Bishop O’Byrne High School for his Grade 12 year. A few years after graduation Mahir joined the O’Byrne coaching staff as an Assistant Coach and has been a valuable member of the SR Boys Basketball program for almost 10 years.

WIN Basketball is excited to have Mahir back for his third season with the club, after a very successful year in 2015 with the U15 boys.

Why you love the sport of Basketball: It’s an unexplainable feeling, when I play, even though sometimes it’s not as skilled, I just feel like I’m home on the court, playing and reffing. There’s a natural draw to be apart of the game.
